developing story we're following, secretary of state hillary clinton in a new york city hospital this morning being treated for a blood clot. her spokesperson says the clot was discovered during a routine followup exam yesterday in the wake of the concussion she suffered several weeks ago following a fall. now, nbc news chief science and health correspondent robert bazell is live from new york there in front of the presbyterian hospital. bob, what do we know about secretary clinton's condition and how she is being treated right now? >> richard, we know precious little. we had the one statement yesterday evening from secretary clinton's staff that said she suffered a concussion that was related -- excuse me -- suffered a blood clot related to this concussion. usually when somebody has a blood clot related to a concussion it is in the brain and would not be treated with anticlotting drugs. she is being treated with anticlotting drugs. so maybe she has a blood clot someplace else. we don't know anything -- there have been no statements today either from the hospital here or from the state depart

happened in the hours leading up to this tragedy. according to the kansas city star, it all started 1:00 saturday morning when belcher's girlfriend got home late from a concert that she attended with friends. well, tragically, it ended seven hours later. when belcher shot her several times, and he then drove to the chiefs stadium where he then took his own life. this morning, investigators are trying to figure out why nfl linebacker jovan belcher killed his 22-year-old girlfriend and then took his own life. >> we heard that they had been arguing in the past. as far as recently, they had been arguing before the shooting occurred. >> reporter: police say saturday morning he shot and killed kasandra perkins, the mother of his 3-month-old daughter at their home. police say belcher's own mother was in the house, saw the murder and called 911. he then jumped in his car and drove to arrowhead stadium to the team's practice facility. with a gun held to his head in the parking lot, authorities say, he began talking to coaches. >> when he pulled up -- he was was -- they were never in danger. he

to proceed with the case at this time. >> reporter: the 70-year-old was arrested in new york city in august, just as she arrived to work at the u.s. open as a line judge. her husband alan goodman was found dead in the couple's california home in april. she told police he fell down the stairs. prosecutors alleged goodman used the coffee mug to bludgeon him and stabbed him with the broken pieces. she pleaded not guilty. her attorney claims police botched the investigation and says her client's dna was not found on the coffee mug. >> this is a wonderful woman whose name was tarnished all over this country. >> reporter: family and friends also came to goodman's defense, including her daughter. >> my mother did not do this. she is not capable physically or emotionally to do something like this. >> reporter: prosecutors say they are still investigating the case and could refile charges if they find new evidence. >> sounds to me like the forensics didn't match up, they're going to let her go, and unless somebody comes forward and says i was there and saw her kill him, then the investigation is goi
